Movie Storyline
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) reunite for the comedy adventure Paul as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America's UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever. For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. When he discovers he's been taken prisoner, the space-traveling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town-a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Frost). Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship. And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes...

Trivia:
At the 2010 San Diego Comic Con, Seth Rogen admitted that he had to consult help from actor Andy Serkis for inspiration in order to get the idea on how to use the motion capture suit for his CGI character Paul. Serkis had originally portrayed Gollum (through motion capture and voice) in the Lord of the Rings films.

Goofs:
Revealing mistakes: The actor who plays Ruth Buggs normal eye can see seen behind Ruth's blacked out glasses when Graeme and Ruth are arguing. Ruth's eye is meant to be deformed.

Quotes:
Paul: [Paul is posing on the couch as Graeme prepares to draw him] Are you gonna draw me like your French girls, Jack?
[blows a kiss]

User Review:

Paul is brilliant, a shining example of superb British comedy., rated: 9/10
Proper belly busting laughter with gags delivered using perfect timing. Simon Pegg & Nick Frosts' performances successfully summed up the UK geek culture perfectly. Kristen Wiigs' performance as the religiously confused Ruth when learning how to curse reminded me of legendary performances by Les Dawson when playing the piano incorrectly. Jason Batemen playing special agent "Lorenzo Zoil" must be the corniest joke since "Gay Fokker" (Meet the parents), but the context and delivery was priceless. My local cinema almost full for the first time since Titanic and generated a round of applause at the end which I have not seen in the cinema for a long time. Makes me proud to be British. Lets hope for a lot more from Pegg & Frost being the funniest comedy duo since Morecambe & Wise. A truly enjoyable movie which can be summed up as a 21st century E.T. from an adults point of view.
