User Review:

Very Bad Things in a Frat House, rated: 7/10
When some college frat boys pressurize a freshman applicant to their fraternity to carry out a convenience store robbery at gunpoint as part of their induction process, one doesn't need a PhD to predict there will probably be some disagreeable consequences. Needless to say, the hold-up is less than a complete success, and "Brotherhood" soon finds itself in similar territory to "Very Bad Things" as the fall-out from this reckless prank spirals disastrously out of control during the course of a long night. The following events are depicted with verve as each proposed remedy pushes a bad situation further towards catastrophe. The brotherhood's bonds soon start disintegrating under the strain of the situation, and the growing crisis is laced with some moments of dark comedy and high tension. Unfortunately any audience sympathy for their plight is diluted by the misogyny, racism, stupidity and selfishness of these unpleasant frat boys. The film boasts some high energy direction, excellent cinematography and solid acting performances from the cast, but its principal drawback is the relentless, frenzied pace combined with a lack of variation in emotional pitch - a roller-coaster ride in a perpetual state of near-hysteria eventually becomes somewhat exhausting.
