It helps me save & convert my old video tapes quite wellJanuary 26, 2010 George Dewey(Jacksonville, Florida United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
No complaints here. I only purchased it to convert my old video VHS tapes to DVD, not to record off the air. And WOW, it does convert them and quite well. I use the HQ (High Quality) mode which gives me an hour per DVD. I get nearly as good quality on the next mode down in quality. Sony knows how to put together a good unit. It does have upconverting built in also.
Good RecorderJanuary 19, 2010 Ambrose A. Nnaemeka(Detroit, MI USA) I have owned this Recorder for over a year now. It records and plays back various recording media without problem. DVD and VCR Playback is upscaled to near HD quality. The only time I sent it for warranty repair was when the door suddenly opened and refused to close. After the repair everything started working normally again.
Defective product - VHS does not trackDecember 23, 2009 John Petrula 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The Sony RDR-VX560 was a major disappointment. I returned and replaced the unit three times. In each case, the replacement was unable to track Sony VHS tapes recorded on the unit itself or from other Sony VCRs. The DVD recorder worked properly. I have purchased Sony VCRs as long as Sony has made them because of their features, well-written documentation, well-thought layout, and ease of use. I was looking forward to having both the VHS & DVD capabilities available in the RDR-VX560. Since their previous VHS recorders worked fine, all they needed to do was use their existing VHS design for the RDR-VX560. I finally gave up on Sony and purchased a recorder from another company which tracks VHS and records DVDs without trouble. I did notice that this was my first Sony recorder manufactured in China. Obviously, the design and quality control are inadequate now that manufacturing is in China. Let's hope Sony goes back to manufacturing outside China and once again makes reliable equipment.
