Waste of money. Pioneer DVD players and recorders are the BEST that my MONEY CAN GET.November 9, 2009 Cestmoi I have bought both Samsung and Liteon DVD recorders. There are huge wastes of money.
Ninety percent of the time, my Samsung recorder can not even read the disc it has just recorded. This happens especially when it's a rewriteable disc. I exchanged it for another new one but I still got the same problem. All most all the discs recorded by Samsung and Liteon can't be played by other DVD players. Even my computer can't play them most of the time!
After that, I bought a Pioneer DVD recorder. It has never failed me.
Samsung, Sony, Liteon, Panasonic can't play many DVD discs I bought from the local China town even though they're labeled region 1. My Pioneer DVD player reads 99 percent of them. When my Pioneer player can't read a disc, then no other player or computer can.
In short, Pioneer DVD recorders and players are more expensive but they're worth every penny.

I have had this awhile and admit I bought this w/o researching as well as I should have. It plays fine, the only problem with it not playing discs is when they are badly scratched so I haven't had a problem beyond that. It is fairly easy and does most of what I want. What I should have checked before I purchased this machine is that it won't record one thing and let me watch another. So I will be checking those functions more carefully next time. If you want a fairly simple dvdr this one is fine.
Great Recordings, Sleek/ compact Records -minus R/RWDecember 31, 2008 M. Gehret(Colorado Springs) This is a good overall recorder and affordable. I was totally impressed with the unit to copy my favorite shows on Cable (via S-Video input) and the playback with the HDMI signal to my HDTV.
The remote control covers it all, the menu and settings are EZ to understand and set up.
I strongly recommend that users buy good quality blank media such as Verbatim, TDK, Sony and Panasonic discs. The lower the number (speed ie: 8 X) the better with this unit and any stand alone DVD recorder. Verbatim discs are the best out there. Big drawback is no built in fan, runs hot, and even hotter when turned on long periods.
Samsung needs to start installing fans on their DVD recorders for longevity. This is the better model from other Samsungs out there. Stay clear from their dual or dubbing units.
Please don't waste your moneyDecember 23, 2008 N. Bass(New York, NY United States) This DVD player will fustrate you!! When it plays (WHEN!!), the picture will be good BUT for no rhyme nor reason, it will decide NOT to play a DVD. It's totally fustrating. This goes for new DVDs or even DVD you just played. I would think it was just my player, except that I read a review someplace else that described the same thing. Do yourself a favor and buy from another company
A bad buyDecember 12, 2008 archimedes I thought I was making a good investment in buying a name brand dvd player. Only owning it for a short while, it began skipping. Even new dvds skipped. Now I can't play a dvd without skipping. I learned my lesson, do your research before buying anything. The recorder does work. I would diffently buy another product.
